Larry Christensen Obituary

Larry Grant Christensen 66, of East Hartford, CT. passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Larry was born October 2, 1956 in Logan, UT the third of five children born to the late Grant and Renee (Stanton) Christensen. Larry is survived by his longtime loving partner Cheryl Heanue, three children Jennifer (Jason) Wood, Jamie Gudaitis and John (LeAnn) Gudaitis and 7 grandchildren who lovingly called him "Poppy". Griffin and Aaron Wood, Sean, Anson and Presley Conley, and Logan and Lukas Gudaitis. Mieko, his fur baby will also miss him. She brought a smile to his face and did something silly on a daily basis that would make him laugh. Larry also leaves behind his brothers, Dennie (Alison) Christensen of California, Cory (Lynda) Christensen of Utah and Todd Christensen of Utah as well as a sister, Sharon Christensen of Utah and nine nieces and nephews who loved receiving birthday cards over the years from him from New England as he would always include a leaf or two from a tree they would not have where they live in the West. Larry attended Logan, UT City schools. He worked in a variety of part-time jobs while attending high school, and eventually worked for a number of years in the construction industry as an electrician. Larry was recruited by a friend to pursue a career in the insurance industry which resulted in his relocation to Connecticut. He enjoyed assisting people with their insurance needs and developed many personal relationships with clients over the years. Anyone who met Larry would say "he is SO nice". Nice is a good word to describe him. Never had a bad word to say about anyone and always greeted you with a smile and great respect. Larry was an active person. He enjoyed tennis, skiing, biking, walking, hunting and especially running. He ran 30 consecutive marathons in St. George, Utah and one Boston marathon. Larry enjoyed just hanging around with the grandchildren. Biking, walking, flying kites, watching movies or just having a good meal with them and talking about their likes and dislikes. He was like that, he loved to listen. A good quality to have. Larry's favorite warm places to vacation were Mexico, Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. Closer to home he enjoyed nice long weekends in Boston, MA, Lake George, NY and especially Newport, RI. A big shout out to all the doctors and nurses at Yale New Haven Hospital as well as all the doctors and nurses in the Critical Care Unit at Manchester Memorial Hospital and his oncology staff. A special thank you goes out to Kristen L. his nurse for his chemo infusion and also to Jill, his special hospice nurse. She made the time he had with her comforting above and beyond! Newkirk and Whitney 318 Burnside Avenue East Hartford CT 06108 are handing Larry's services. To sign the online guestbook go to www.newkirkandwhitney.com There will be no calling hours. A celebration of life is being planned for Connecticut and Utah at a later date. At the end of our day, we'd say "sleep tight, I love you, see you in the morning", so until that morning, "sleep tight, I love you".

Pam Smith (Anderson)

I have many childhood memories with Larry as we were neighbors growing up together since birth. Along with Lorie Smith we played together in a big yard that the Christensen owned as many night games, baseball, kickball and volleyball were played with all the neighborhood. It was our older siblings that created the fun, night games all summer long was something we looked forward to. Larry was shy but taught us how to make  paper boats to float in the ditch that went in front of his home. We would race along the boats and would catch them before going into the big canal at the end of the street. Larry was always polite and kind as described in his obituary. It is a privilege to call him friend. The boys growing up in the Logan 3rd ward did alot of fun things, Larry, David Reese, Neal Black, Neil Thomas, Tom Willmore, Keith Anderson, Steve Pehrson, Jerry Toombs, Rodney Lundberg, Ernie Vanwansgard, took Lorie and I on our first adventure to the wind caves. It is with much sorrow we all say goodbye to him as our dear classmate and friend.
