Garth Eugene Stockton, son of Norman E. Stockton and Gwenneth Ingram Stockton, died at the age of 59 Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional for their noble efforts in caring for Garth.
Garth was born in San Marcos, Texas. His father was in the military, so their family lived overseas and at various army bases in the U.S. They eventually settled in Cache Valley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Stockton, mother, Gwen Stockton, sister, Robin Sanders and brother-in-law, William Sanders. He is survived by his two sons, Tyler Stockton and Sean Stockton, who were his pride and joy. Also, a sister, Melody Gleed, brother Brad Stockton, sister Heather Halverson, and brother Corey Stockton. He married Peggy Colleen Jensen in Smithfield, Utah, on Oct. 28, 1978.
Garth graduated from Logan High School in 1974 and later from Utah State University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in political science and public administration. He was employed for 30 years with Bear River Association of Governments in Logan, with his last position being director of Health and Human Services.
Garth loved the outdoors and being in nature. His last few years were spent hiking through the canyons and mountains with his four-legged companion "Butch". He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and rock and fossil hunting. Garth was a great storyteller and loved to entertain everyone with all of his childhood adventures. He also loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle across Utah and other western states.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 31, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah. There will be a visitation from noon to 1 pm.
